Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan son of Rana Phool Muhammad Khan was born on April 20, 1945 at Gumthala District Karnal, India. He obtained the degree of LL.B. from Punjab University Law College, Lahore. An advocate, an agriculturist and a seasoned/veteran politician who served as General Secretary, Tehsil Bar Association, Chunian during 1975-76; as Vice Chairman, Zila Council, Kasur during 1983-87; as Member, Provincial Council of the Punjab during 1983-84; and as Chairman, Zila Council Kasur for two consecutive terms during 1987-93. He was first elected unopposed, to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in bye-elections 1993, but before he could make oath as a Member, the Assembly was dissolved in June 1993. He returned to the Assembly in 1993 and served as Member, Punjab Assembly during 1993-96. He was re-elected to the Punjab Assembly for the third term in 1997 and served as Provincial Minister holding various portfolios during 1997-99. In the fourth and fifth term, he functioned as Speaker Punjab Assembly during 2008-18. He remained Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab during 2018-23 and functioned as Chairman, Standing Committee on Housing, Urban Development & Public Health Engineering. He has been re-elected as Member, Provincial Assembly of the Punjab for the seventh term in General Elections 2024. He has extensively travelled abroad on both official and personal visits. He belongs to a notable and acclaimed family of politicians. His father, Rana Phool Muhammad Khan was Member of Punjab Assembly for six consecutive terms during 1965-69, 1972-77, 1977, 1985-88, 1988-90 and 1990-93, and also served as provincial minister during 1988-90 and 1990-93. His cousin, Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan remained Member National Assembly for three terms during 1990-93, 1997-99 and 2013-18. His another cousin, Rana Muhammad Ishaq Khan was a Member of National Assembly during 2008-13, 2013-18 and is a sitting MNA.
